Hello, everyone!
My name is Takayuki Kondo and
I am the proprietor of a farm called Mantenfarms.
Although I am not originally from a farming family,
I’ve loved doing something like farming
since I was a child due partly to my mother’s side of the family,
who were running a dairy farm. So I became a farmer in 2006.
Then when I married my wife, who was a successor of a local farm,
I was adopted by her family.

My wife’s parents are still active in running their farm,
so although I am a son-in-law, I run a farm separately
from them while receiving advice from them.
For 15 years since then, I have gone from producing
small quantities of many products to
producing large quantities of a few products, and from managing
for fun to managing in pursuit of productivity.
Since around the time when my growing techniques stabilized,
I was always talking with my wife about
what we want to do or what kind of agriculture
we want to do and reached an answer:
Selling vegetables where we could see their faces
and identities and where they were going.

On our farm we grow various items outdoors as well as
in greenhouses throughout the year while selecting the kinds of crops (varieties),
cropping types and farming methods with our motto of “growing vegetables (foodstuff)
and flowers that can present topics of a conversation at the table.”
While adopting new varieties, materials and technologies
for vegetables along with basic technologies for keeping soil in good condition and cultivation management
developed by farmers in Japan, we “want to provide vegetables
that can be enjoyed by both growers and eaters to consumers.”
After 15 years of working as farmers, my wife and I now have a
strong desire to do so everyday.
We often see the expression, “vegetables with a face,” at supermarkets.
At our farm, we would like to introduce not the face of the producers,
but the face of the vegetables.
We strive to run our farm in a manner in which
we can share our thoughts of growing each vegetable
with information on the origin, breeding, and fertilizers used
for vegetables, and other short stories on agriculture step by step,
though it will be limited to the knowledge we have.
